That number was revised from an August projection from eMarketer, which predicted a 14.5 percent increase in 2009. In addition, the growth amid the economy recovery is expected to inch up only slightly in the following three years, with online ad spending hitting 10.9 percent in 2010 and13.5 percent in 2013.

Paid search, according to eMarketer, will see an expected 21.4 percent rise.

“Especially in economic turmoil, search is more trackable than any other ad format,” according to David Hallerman, senior analyst at eMarketer. “At this stage, it is a tried-and-true format that is supporting online growth.”
